  • Beau, December 26, 2009

Beau came to us from a shelter in Cottonwood, Arizona.  When they first called they told us he was about 3 yeard old.  When we got there we realized he was a much older boy, but he was definately ready to get out of the shelter!

He may have been an older man, but he destroyed 2 crates letting us know that is NOT where he wanted to be.  Beau spent his days curled up on his favorite dog bed while we searched for the perfect home.

We placed him in September '05 with Kim and Chris, a family willing to take in this old man in San Diego and made the drive out (...with California rescues blessing). The vet estimated Beau was a 10 yr old who had lived a hard life and hadn't known much love. He was full of buck shot and a broken bone that was never addressed at a vet. BUT...did he have love to give! He lived a good life with Kim and Chris and his sister malamute (Taiga). He just passed away on December 26th. Rest in Peace sweet Beau! You will be missed.

  • Mz. B, March 16, 2009

Mz. B was a year old in January, 2009.  She was a typical 1 year old malamute...busy, busy, busy. She loved to play, dig holes, play and oh yeah...dig holes.  She LOVED attention and was a very sweet little girl.  The moment you bent over to pet her she was covering you with kisses and then she was off to find a toy you could throw for her.

Sadly, it is beleived that Mz. B was possibly poisoned by a neighbor.  Unfortunately, we were unable to have a necropsy performed to confirm this, but just the thought is enough to give us pause.  It is horribly devastating that a pup so young and full of life is no longer with us.

Mz. B will always be remembered as full of life.  Be at peace sweet baby!

  • Reddy, April 28, 2008

Reddy was a 7 year old male that came to us from a breeder in Show Low, AZ (wtih 8 other dogs).  We discovered right away that something wasn't right for Reddy.  His owner told us that he was always constipated, but we discovered that he actually had a perenial hernia.  We went ahead and did surgery to repair that, only to find that he also had Inflammatory Bowel Disease. While IBD can sometimes be treated, it was determined that Reddy had too many obstacles to live a comfortable life: he had a hernia on his left side that seemed to be causing continued issue for him when combined with his lack of motility; and he was either suffering from diarrhea or horrible constipation constantly and was in too much pain.  We made the hard decision, with the support of our vet, to let Reddy go.

This big red dog was a sweet boy.  He would lay on the floor with his head in your lap and would fight to keep you there.  Every time you moved to get up he would squirm closer and lay a large leg and paw over your lap.  It's hard to believe he spent most of his life living on a chain.

We'll miss you big boy. You took a piece of our heart with you.

  • Piston, April 14, 2008

Piston appeared at a local race track in the middle of nowhere in Tucson, Arizona.  Hence the name we gave him...Piston.  He was a sweet, affectionate boy.  Piston's health declined quickly. We believe he had Valley Fever and very likely Distemper.  Please note that Distemper would have been completely avoidable with a simple, inexpensive vaccination.

We struggled to keep Piston alive as he fought off his many issues.  Unfortunately, it was simply too hard on him and we were forced to let him go.  It broke our hearts.

Piston, we know you understand that you were loved and we did the best we could.  We adored you sweet man.  Peace to you.
  • CurleySue, June 23, 2003

CurleySue showed up in a shelter in Ohio in March of 2003.  She had been adopted as a much younger dog by a family that promised to love her. She was returned to the shelter where they adopter her many years later. Sadly, she was not well cared for and was terribly overweight.  So much so, that her front legs were breaking down from the burden she carried and she couldn't walk very well.

At our house, CurleySue discovered that she LOVED sleeping in the middle of the bed under the ceiling fan.  Of course, she needed help getting on and off the bed...but she was in heaven when she was up there!

She ADORED a little mix puppy that we had rescued at the same time. Due to her disability, CurleySue didn't move very well. One day she came running (sort of running) around the corner chasing after little Gracie. They had so much fun! Watching this sweet girl learn to enjoy life again was pure pleasure.

Sadly, she was only with us a few short months.  We showed her all the love and dignity she deserved.  Rest in peace sweet baby.

This is our memorial to honor the dogs that have come into our rescue and left us too soon.
